Winding down our last day at Cardigan

by Caroline C. September 30, 20222

Day three was our last and final day at Cardigan. This was day our group went on the compass course. To start off the day we would pack up and eat a breakfast consisting of french toast casserole, eggs and bacon. Once everybody finished we got into groups and began our day. The compass course was similar to a scavenger hunt. We would be given a slip of paper with certain directions, and would have to follow these directions on the paper to find the destination. Once got there we would sketch what we found. One of these destinations was the skiing hill. This consisted of an old rusted car, old rope tow, and a bunch of ferns and birch trees. After our group had finished the compass course we made our way back to the lodge stoping by a pond beforehand. Here we would eat lunch and sketch the pond. As our sketching came to an end, we picked out an item from around the pond that mde us think of something. Walking back from the pond we ended up playing a game of camouflage, a game similar to hide and seek to wrap up our day. Back at the lodge all of groups combined and hopped on the bus, giving the staff a wave before leaving Cardigan behind.

Movement

One of the themes of geography that came up this day was movement. Movement is the way things move from one place to another. This could be a physical thing, like the seeds we saw from trees making their way down the mountain, or it could be something like an idea, a recipe or something that didn't orginate from Cardigan. This could even be what we ate on the first day, spaghetti and meatballs, this recipe didn't not originate from Cardigan lodge but it still made its way there. More than just recipes, there are skills that we learned, that we were able to take back from Cardigan. Things about hiking like how to use a compus properly or what different markings on a tree mean. Movement could even be people like us, moving from Hopkinton to Cardigan and back to Hopkinton.
